INTERNATIONAL RED CROSS

NEW ZEALAND GRANT (P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 1. The Prime Minister, Mr P. Fraser, announced to-day that the New Zealand Government had agreed to make an annual contribution of £2OOO to the International Red Cross Committee at Geneva. This contribution is intended to assist the committee in meeting the very heavy expenditure involved in serving the interests of prisoners of war. Mr Fraser sa'id the New Zealand Government was deeply appreciative of the work of the committee on behalf of New Zealanders, and welcomed the opportunity which the payment afforded of showing in a tangible manner its high regal’d for the splendid work being done. The president of the committee, acknowledging the contribution, said it came when expenditure was steadily increasing- and was a moral as well as a material, encouragement.
