GENERAL MacARTHUR

APPRECIATION OF AWARD SYDNEY, May 28. “I deeply appreciate the distinction of the award,” said General MacArthur, acknowledging his appointment by the King to be a Knight of the Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath. “My gratification and pride are only increased by the realisation that, although U is quite beyond anything my personal effort warranted, it truly reflects the courage, skill, devotion, and sacrifice of my comrades of the Australian, American, Dutch and other forces which it is my fortune to command. It is they who, with God's help, have- earned and won it, and it will be my high honour to symbolise their victory and success."
