METROPOLITAN ZONE APPEAL TOTAL NOW £27,350 A meeting of representatives of subzones in the metropolitan district patriotic zone was held yesterday "morning. The Mayor (Mr A. H. Allen) presided, and there, were also present Messrs Edgar Hazlett, Arthur Barnett, N. D. Anderson, James Hogg, W. G. Kindley, (Dunedin-St. Hilda Sub-zone), A. L. S. Cassie (Port Chalmers), A'. Fell (Waikouaiti), G. A. Orange (Green Island), J» J. Nyhon (Peninsula), and E. J,. Taylor (West -Har-bOUrlj-h-Vf y i The- chairmans said that the • metropolitan zone’s quota 1 of the £115,000 required from the province this year was £73,806, and the amount collected to date was £27,350. With four months to go until the close of the financial year, all committees would require to exert every effort to collect the‘balance of £46,456. It was stated by one country delegate that the most generous support-received in his area had come from people of..moderate means, and he expressed the hope that more support would be given by those who were known to be well able to give. It was agreed that the Waikouaiti and Port Chalmers Committees should come to a mutual arrangement regarding collections from Carey’s Bay and Deborah Bay residents. 1 Mr James Hogg (chairman of the Appeals Committee) reported that meetings had been held in all our sub-zones. He referred to the recent welcome home j given at Green- Island to 10 " returned—soldiers, and the tributes paid by the returned men to the way in which patriotic funds were .expended for the benefit of men overseas. Most of the districts were now well organised, but some committees had made a late start. The,chairman referred to the big selling -day to be conducted in the Octagon Dug-out by the Waikouaiti people on Friday, June 4. .Mr Fell’ (Waikouaiti) said that his district had been well organised and by the sale of produce, at the Dug-out it was hoped to’raise £3OO or £400.The chairman said the Dug-out wa* available for the use of any sub-stone in the metropolitan zone.
