RED CROSS NEWS
On Thursday afternoon a pleasant function took place in the University Club rooms, when members of the Dunedin Executive of the Red Cross Society, delegates from the local, sub-centres, the Junior Red Cross organiser, and representatives of the sewing guilds welcomed Miss Iris Crooke, director-general of the New Zealand Red Cross Voluntary Aids. Miss Crooke spoke of the wonderful spirit of co-operation in Dunedin, and outlined the work of the Voluntary Aids, mentioning the work of the junior members of the society. Mrs Duncan Stout, the supervisor of the stores sewing department of the Joint Council of the Order of St. John and the New Zealand Red Cross Society, was also present. During the afternoon both Miss Crooke and Mrs Stout inspected the Red Cross offices, the prisoners-of-war packing department, and the Joint Council storeroom. Afternoon tea was served at the close of the func■tl'During her visit to Dunedin Miss Crooke was entertained by Mrs R. Dawson, who gave a luncheon party at the Otago Women's Club on Wednesday, when the lady superintendents of the V.A. detachments and Mrs Duncan Stout were also entertained. Miss E. L. Wilkin (director of V.A.’s for Otago) gave a luncheon party in her honour at the Savoy, when commandants of the V.A. detachments were also present. , . On Tuesday Miss Crooke travelled to Middlemarch with the Red Cross transport to. meet the members of the society there. She was accompanied by Mrs Dawson.
