OTAGO A. AND P. SOCIETY

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the committee of the Otago A. and P. Society was held on Thursday afternoon, and was attended by Messrs J. Young (vice-president), in the chair, C. M. Bruce, H. M. Driver, W. H. Elliott. R. T. Kirk. J. Hellyer, J. Allison, W. S. Thomson, W. Lee, A. C. Begg, J. Mitchell, and R. D. Stewart. . The chairman referred to the deaths of Mr Geoffrey Reid, who was a member of the committee, and Mr Scott Thomson and Mrs W. Kirk, both members of the society for many years. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect. On the recommendation of the Finance Committee, accounts amounting to £lB9 8s 4d were passed for payment, the bank balance being in credit £448 8s lOd and outstanding cheques amounting to £5 10s. Portion of the Prydone Hall was again leased to the badminton clubs for the season on the terms as last year. The statement of receipts and expenditure for the Burnside ram fair was considered, and the small credit balance was noted with approval. The annqal report and balance sheet was approved for presentation to the annual meeting, and it was decided that nominations for the committee should close with the secretary on May 28. It was decided that the Prime Minister (Mr P. Fraser) be asked to open the Winter Show at 2.30 p.m. on Friday, June 4. The Space Committee reported that the space was almost completely filled and that some very attractive exhibits had been arranged for. Good entries were already to hand in the dairy factory cheese and butter and wool sections, and at least six Women's Institute bays were entered. For the diamond jubilee Clydesdale stallion parade, to be held at Tahuna Park in September, it was decided that the Draught Horse Committee should meet during the show to arrange the classes and put forward a special effort to make a success of this fixture. It was decided to ask the Clydesdale Horse Society to increase its donation for this special occasion.

The next meeting was arranged for May 20 owing to the usual date being too close to the Winter Show.
