NEW ZEALAND GIRL MISS McKENZIE’S CAREER (Special) WELLINGTON, Apl. 30. A New Zealand girl who has had a distinctive career in diplomatic circles, Miss Jean McKenzie, is at present revisiting her homeland after an absence of more than ten years. Her stay in the Dominion, however, will not be long, for she is to go to Canberra to join New Zealand’s High Commissioner in the Commonwealth, Mr C. A. Berendsen, C.M.G., as official secretary. Miss McKenzie left New Zealand in 1932, accompanying Mr Coates to the Ottawa Conference. In 1936 when Mr Jordan was appointed High Commissioner in London, Miss McKenzie joined his staff. She was attached to the League of Nations section of the High Commissioner’s office and attended all meetings of the League Assembly and Council with Mr Jordan. After acting as private secretary to the Prime Minister. Mr Fraser, when he visited Great Britain in 1941. Miss McKenzie went to Washington to prepare for the establishment of the New Zealand Legation there. On the appointment of Mr Nash as New Zealand p ..lister to Washington she became personal secretary to the Minister, and last month when Mr Berendsen was appointed High Commissioner to Australia Miss McKenzie was appointed Official Secretary. Miss McKenzie was first secretary of the New Zealand Forces Club in London, and continued to act in that capacity until she left for the United States. She is known to thousands of New Zealanders all over the world. Miss McKenzie flew the Atlantic with Mr Fraser and Mi* Berendsen when they were on their way back to New Zealand in 1941 and again in 1942, when she accompanied Mr Nash as secretary on his visit to Britain to attend meetings of the British War Cabinet.
