GIRLS’ CHOIR

CONCERTS IN CHRISTCHURCH

The Oamaru Girls’ Choir, under Mrs .Myra Chase, has been invited to provide a major part of the programme for the Christchurch Philharmonic Society’s concert at Christchurch on Saturday night. The invitation was arranged by Mr Victor Peters, who made a special visit to Oamaru last year to hear the choir. He was greatly impressed by the musical ability of the members, most of whom received their first tuition in choral work at the Waltalci Girls’ High School. Since its formation by Mrs Chase about three years ago, the choir has been examined by Mr Anderson Tyrer and Mr Colin Taylor, and passed the Trinity College and Royal Academy rxaminations with distinction, in addition to the choir numbers, Miss Dorothy Cayford will sing three songs and Miss Noeline Nightingale will play 'cello solos. The choir will leave Oamaru to-day to spend the week-end in Christchurch. The concert will be broadcast by 3YA and 3YL, and on Sunday afternoon the choir will broadcast from the studio of 3ZB at 2.15. On Sunday night, the choir will sing at the Oxford Terrace Baptist Church, rendering the numbers “ O Lovely Peace ” (Handel) and “ How Beautiful Are Thy Feet” (Handel).
