251 b Groper Landed.—Mr G. Williamson, while fishing with a short rod for blue cod in Waikouaiti Bay. hooked a large groper, and, after playing it for 20 minutes, was successful in hauling it into his boat. Its weight was 251 b. An Easter visitor landed a 14-pounder off the point at Matanaka. It is rare for groper to be cauglit at Waikouaiti. Social and Dance.—Last Thursday evening the Athenaeum Hall was well filled when a social and dance organised by the Waikouaiti Women’s Institute was held to augment the funds of the All Purposes Appeal. Competitions were won by S. Cameron, Mrs Leckie, M. Toomey, and Mr and Mrs Simmons. The Mayo(Mr A. Fell) thanked the Women’s Institute for its effort, and Mrs Demus (president) expressed thanks for the generous support accorded the function. The sum of £l7 was handed to the Waikouaiti Patriotic Society.
