FINLAND AND RUSSIA

AMERICAN ATTITUDE NOT ACTING AS INTERMEDIARY (Rec. 10.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, Apl. 27. The United States will not act as an intermediary between Finland and Russia, especially since there is no expectation that Russia will recede from her stand regarding frontiers, says the Washington correspondent of the New York Times. The United States, the correspondent adds, cautioned Finland against joining the German offensive against Russia, and pointed out what Finland’s plight would be if the end of the war found her in the Axis camp. It is considered that the best insurance for Finland’s future security would be an agreement with Russia, but informed circles are not optimistic of the chances and state that the United States is not in a position to offer the Finns any guarantee.
