Mrs F. Throp returned at the weekend from a visit to Ashburton. Mrs T. A. Hunter, of Heretaunga, Wellington, will return north to-morrow, after a week’s visit to Dunedin. Miss Patricia Gatehouse, of Invercargill, is spending a few days in Dunedin on her way to Auckland. She will make an extended tour of the North Island. Miss Mary Coll, of " Tara Hill." Pukeawa, is spending a few days in Dunedin. Mrs A. K. Ibbotson has returned from a visit to Timaru. Mrs R. Hudson returned yesterday from a visit to Christchurch. Mrs Norman Speight has returned to Dunedin after spending the summer months in Palmerston North. Mrs B. Bcnzoni and Miss M. Martin have returned after visiting the railway stations throughout Otago to judge the garden competition. A diamond jubilee gift of £IOO has been made to the Wellington Girls' College by the headmistress, Miss E. M. North, for the founding of a scholarship to be known as the North-Ecclesfield Scholarship. The death has occurred of Mrs Isabella Worsley, of Mount Eden, Auckland, widow of the late Mr Charles Nathaniel Worsley, a well-known New Zealand artist. Mrs Worsley was born in Devonshire 73 years ago, and came to New Zealand in 1905. She was keenly interested in Spiritualism, and published books on the subject. Her husband died in 1923. The Federation of University Women held its first meeting for the year on Saturday afternoon in the Pioneer Women's Hall, when Mrs A. M. Harvie gave an address on " The Position of Indian Women.” Miss M. I. Turnbull presided, and extended a special welcome to Miss Allen, of Auckland. Mrs Reginald Hudson was appointed secretary, in place of Mrs Logan, who is at present residing in Nelson,

Sister M. Evangelist and Sister M. Baptist, of St. Dominic's Priory, Dunedin, yesterday celebrated the golden jubilee of their religious profession. Sister Evangelist is a niece of the late Bishop Moran, the first Roman Catholic Bishop of Dunedin, and Sister Baptist has spent most of her religious life in Dunedin. The sisters received many congratulatory messages from different parts of New Zealand, and also from outside the Dominion. Friends and members of the staff of the Central Mission Rest Home, Company’s Bay, attended a farewell social in the Crawford Lounge on Saturday night to Sister Bailey, who after three • and a-half years of service, will leave on Thursday for Wellington to take up a new position. She will be much missed by the old folk. During the evening Mr W. P. Clifford presented the guest of honour with a beautiful hanging mirror, and praised the excellent services rendered by the sister during her term at the home. Sister Bailey expressed thanks and spoke of her appreciation of the combined work of her staff. A bouquet was sent to Sister Bailey’s mother. Among those present were Dr B. Monheimer, Mr W. P. Clifford, Mr and Mrs Grantham, Mr and Mrs Beckingsale, Mr and Mrs Lee, Nurses Simpson, Martin, Griffin, Gillon, Misses A. Hall, E. Hall, and F. Galvin. A successful bring-and-buy afternoon organised by the Combined Ex-girls’ Service Group was held at the home of Mrs S. G. Scoular last Saturday. The sum of £7O was raised to provide several wheel chairs for ex-servicemen in the Public Hospital.

The speaker at the meeting of the Travel Club to-morrow morning will be the Rev. T. G. Campbell.
