PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE
DELEGATES FROM DUNEDIN The Mayor (Mr J. C. Kirkness) presided at the monthly meeting of the North Otago Patriotic Committee yesterday afternoon. He welcomed the following delegates from the Otago Provincial Patriotic Council:—Messrs J. Hogg (chairman of the Appeals Committee), J. Sutherland Ross, W. G. Kindley. and A. E. Russell (secretary). Mr Hogg said that the North Otago Zone was one of the best controlled zones in the province. He also congratulated the women of the North Otago and other zones in the Otago Patriotic Council’s district on the good work they were doing. North Otago's quota for 1943 was £14,145. which was slightly less than last year s because of the Government grant to the council. The cost of administration rf Otago’s All Purposes Appeal amounted to roughly id in the £, which was very small compared with some other zones. He stated that parcels were sent out to all forces outside the three-mile limit, and he had received many letters of appreciation. The concluding date of the 1943 appeal was September 30, and he hoped that by that time he could hand over Otago's full quota. Mr James Rodman said that he felt certain that North Otago would reach its quota for the 1943 appeal. Mr Kirkness thanked the delegates for attending the meeting. He also thanked the country districts for their magnificent response to the appeal last year. Mr A. C. Piper (secretary of the R.S.A.) attended the meeting to discuss the appointment of railway transport officers to assist servicemen who arrived at Oamaru by late trains to secure beds for tne night.—lt was agreed to take the necessary action.
