ENLISTMENT PROBLEM
AGREEMENT AIMED AT (Rec. 1.30 a.m.) NEW YORK, Mar. 15. A recruiting agreement under which neither the followers of General Giraud nor General de Gaulle would permit enlistments from one force to the other without their mutual consent, will be one purpose of a meeting in Algievs soon between General Giraud and General Catroux, representing General de Gaulle.
Reporting this, the Washington correspondent of the New York Times says that an agreement would be designed to solve the problems whicn have arisen in New York, where seamen from the Richelieu and other French ships have deserted to join General de Gaulle’s forces; and in Britain, where vessels from North Africa are docked. Some of General de Gaulle’s followers believe that General Giraud should remove naval officers sympathetic to Vichy whose opinions are reported to have offended pro-Allied seamen.
