OBITUARY

MR WILLIAM MORLEY The death occurred at Christchurch on Monday afternoon of Mr William Morley, a well-known business man. Mr Morley, who, until compelled by ill-health to retire some 12 months ago had for many years been managing director of Messrs A. and T. Burt, Ltd., was also a director of Hay’s, Ltd, Carbonic Ice, Ltd., and the Crystal Palace, Ltd. _ . A son of the Rev. Dr W. Morley. a leading minister in the Methodist Church in New Zealand, Mr Morley was born at Wanganui, and was educated at the Christchurch Boys’ Hign School."He started his business career with Messrs John Edmond, Ltd., of Dunedin. He afterwards joined Messrs Briscoe and Co., Ltd., and became the firm’s Wellington manager. In 1905 he left Wellington and became managing director of Messrs Mason, Struthers, and Co., Ltd., Christchurch. After spending some years in Australia Mr Morley returned to New Zealand. becoming managing director of Messrs A. and T. Burt, Ltd. Although ill-health forced him to relinquish his post a year ago, he kept an active interest in the business, and retained his seat on the directorate. Mr Morley married Miss Helen Bridson of Wellington, who predeceased him by many years. There were no children.

The flag was flown at half-mast yesterday on the premises of Messrs A. and T. Burt, Ltd., in memory of Mr Morley. _______
