MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the CoSncil of the Otago University was held yesterday afternoon and was attended by the chancellor Mr W. J. Morrell (in the chair), the Mayor (Mr A. H. Alien), Messrs W. R. Brugh A. Steel, W. Downie Stewart, S. Rice H. P. Kidson, J. C. H. Somerville, G. R. Ritchie, the Rev. D. C. Herron, Dr C/E Hercus. Professor R. J. T. Bell, Dr James Fitzgerald, and Miss M. May. The manager of the Trustees, Executors and Agency Company wrote stating that his board had agreed to renew the grant from the John Blair bequest for the lectureship in music at £6OO for the year ending on February 29, 1944. The hoard had also decided to carry forward to a future year funds available from the same bequest for assisting students, unless any special case should present itself.—Approved. , . The Professorial Board recommended that since Miss N. Calvert had been awarded a university national scholarship and had resigned the women’s scholarship, the latter scholarship be awarded to Miss D. J. Robinson, subject to her resigning the Proudfoot Scholarship, and that the 1 o G. 11.5. Jubilee Scholarship be awarded to Miss Jean L. Miller, subject to Miss Edith Wallace accepting the Proudfoot Scholarship.—The recommendation was adopted. The registrar reported that the annual Income of the Obstetrical Scholarship bad r.ow dropped to £284 16s lOd, whilst the council was committed to an exjpenoiture of £322 10s per annum. He stated ’ that the position of certain other scholarship iunds was also unsatisfactory owing to the falling rate of interest. This matter had been referred to the Medical Faculty f<r a report. .
