MIDDLEMARCH
Horticultural Society.—On Saturday Mr A. Carruthers presided over a well-at-tended meeting of the Middlemarch Horticultural Society. The chairman referred to the support accorded the society’s annual show, which, he said, had been a success in every way, and he thanked those who had assisted. The schedule for the next show was revised. Women’s Institute.—At the annual meeting of the Women’s Institute, Mrs McMaster was unanimously re-elected president. The following committee was elected:— Mesdames Ker, Hardy, Robertson, Hall Spratt, Messent, Whiston, Gillespie, Jopp, and Atkinson It was decided to stage a display of work at the A. and P. Easter show. Soldier Entertained.—There was a large attendance at a social held in honour of Private Trevor Tisdall, who was on leave. Miss Joyce Howell 'and Miss W.' Arnott rendered solos. Ex-servicemen from a district camp formed a guard of honour as Private Tisdall went forward to receive a watch, which was presented to him by Mr F. Howell, on behalf of the district. The guest’s mother received a bouquet. Music for the dancing was supplied by Peat’s orchestra, and selections were given by the Pipe Band.
