SAFETY IN THEATRES
DECISION OF CONFERENCE (P.A.) WELLINGTON,. May 15. All the interests concerned and represented at a conference called by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr W. E. Parry, to-day stated their complete agreement that immediate and effective action must be taken to safeguard New Zealand. theatregoers against siich tragedies as have occurred during recent months overseas when panic has broken out. Much has already been done by the preparation of schemes for the training of theatre staffs and for the instruction of the Sublic, but for one reason or another •.ere has been a lapse in action. It was decided at the conference today that a regulation must be drafted immediately and made applicable in all cities and centres throughout the country. All the speakers agreed that panic was a far greater danger than fire, and panic could be averted by staff training and public education. The Minister said he was concerned only with the safety of the public, and suggested that the conference should approach the question in the same manner.
