TOLL OF RAIDERS
' COASTAL TOWNS ATTACKED (Rec. 8.30 p.m.) RUGBY, Mar. 13. Fighters on an intruder patrol destroyed one enemy bomber over its base in Holland, in addition to one which was shot down over Britain when bombs were dropped on several places on the north-east coast, causing some damage and a number of casualties. This afternoon four enemy aircraft dropped bombs on a place on the south-west coast. There were no injuries and only slight damage. Two of these aircraft were destroyed by our fighters, as were two others which approached the south coast later in the afternoon. In the early afternoon a big force of aircraft, some flying at about 30,000 feet, roared out over the Straits of Dover in the direction of Boulogne. They were formations of bombers escorted by fighters, and within half an hour our planes were returning. One of Germany’s long-distance sea raiders, a Focke Wulf Kurier, was destroyed by a Beauftghter squadron over the Bay of Biscay yesterday in three minutes, bringing the squadron’s total successes to nine in the past seven weeks.
