GISBORNE WHEAT
OVER 50 BUSHELS TO ACRE The extended areas of wheat crops grown in the Gisborne district this season have provided some excellent crops, some of which are estimated to yield more than 50 bushels to the acre. Last season several of the crops exceeded 50 bushels to the acre, and the average exceeded 37 bushels, approximately 10 bushels above the Dominion average. This season, judged by the present appearance of the crops, the yields should not be far behind, in spite of the fact that last season was a particularly good one for the growing of wheat. Gisborne has always grown a little wheat, but for many years the area fell to only a few acres, the product from which was used mainly as poultry feed. During the past few years the areas in this crop have been increasing, and following the appeal for the growing of more wheat in the North Island, Gisborne district farmers have a total of 300 acres or more.
