THE FAIRBRIDGE SCHEME
Sir, —At the present time, when rehabilitation schemes are being so much discussed, child immigration no doubt will be included. The public have just read of the wonderful gift bequeathed to New Zealand by the late Mr GuthrieSmith, and the purpose of that bequest. Could any finer scheme be established for the training of both our orphans and overseas children of the slums than the Fairbridge Farm Schools, inaugurated in 1912 by the great humanitarian, Kingsley Faffbridge? The practical success of his work is being proved throughout Australia and Canada to-day. The work of Fairbridge can best be endorsed in the words of Mr L. S. Amery, a keen supporter: “ I think this is the finest plan for human regeneration that has ever existed, and Kingsley Fairbridge has laid the foundations of something that may yet help to change the face of the British world.” When the great cry of the Empire has long been “put more people on the land,’’ surely this is the great solution—l am, etc., Fairbiidge Supporter. Auckland, January 25.
