OTAGO APRICOT CROP
NEW PRICE ORDER ISSUED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 28. In order to meet the demands of the armed services as well as the public, 50 per cent of the Otago apricot crop is to be dried or canned to replace what would normally be imported. As a safeguard against abnormally high prices for the remainder of the crop, a price order was issued to-night fixing the price throughout New Zealand.
The effect of this is that the maximum wholesale price in Otago and Southland will be 8s per 201 b case, in Canterbury 8s 6d, in the northern end of the South Island and the southern half of the North Island 9s 6d, and in the Auckland Province 10s 6d. The retail prices will not exceed the following:—Otago, Southland, and Canterbury, BJd a lb; the northern end of the South Island and the southern half of the North Island, 9£d; and Auckland, 10£d.
