DRIVE FOR RUBBER
ZONING OF. THE CITY Arrangements for the drive for waste rubber, which is to be held throughout Otago on February 13, were advanced a further stage at a meeting which was called yesterday by the Otago Board for the Reclamation of Waste. The chairman of the board. Mr J. L. Passmore, presided, and those present included representatives of the Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen’s Association, the Returned Services’ Association, the Headmasters' Association, the Communist Party, the Motor Traders’ Association, and the Boy Scouts. It was decided that the city should be divided into approximately 16 zones which will be under the charge of members of the various organisations Which were represented at the meeting. They will have the assistance in the actual task of collection of the Bey Scouts, the Boys’ Brigade, school children, and others. The trades unions are to be asked for their cooperation in arranging for the collection of waste rubber, and work of a propaganda nature will be undertaken, it is hoped, by the Girl Guides. The military authorities have assured the board that they will provide the transport. The board’s present depot in Dowling street will be used for the storage of the rubber, and the Otago Harbour Beard has placed at its disposal premises adjacent to the wharf. Employees of the Harbour Board have also agreed to assist in the unloading of the rubber.
