CROMWELL Medical Board.—A sitting of the Medical Board was held in Cromwell on Monday and Tuesday of last week, when men drawn in the recent ballot were examined. Thirty-five were examined, and 26 wore passed fit for military service. Weather Improves.—There was a considerable improvement in the weather locally last week, when on several occasions hot summer conditions were experienced. After extremely sultry conditions on Friday, a few heavy showers fell on Saturday evening, to the accompaniment of electrical disturbances. In tlie Clyde-Cromwell Gorge heavy rain brought down a quantity of debris on the road on Saturday night, but fortunately the rain eased of! before any serious damage occurred. On Sunday conditions were dull and threatening, but cleared towards evening.
