KING'S COLLEGE
O MR H. B. LUSK APPOINTED HEADMASTER (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Doc. 3. The appointment of Mr Harold Butler Lusk, M.A., LL.B., acting headmaster of King’s College, to be headmaster in succession to Lieutenant-colonel J. N, Peart, D. 5.0., is announced. Lieutenant-colonel Peart died of wounds in the Middle East in September. Mr Lusk, who has been in charge of King's College since the late headmaster joined the forces in 1939, is a veteran teacher well known throughout New Zealand, not only in that capacity, but also as a front, rank cricketer and golfer in bis younger days. A member of an old Auckland family, he was educated at Christ’s College, Christchurch, and at the Auckland University College. He began his teaching career in 1894 under the Auckland Education Board, and later was for about 14 years on the staff of Christ’s College, including two years on exchange at Rugby School. In 1920 he came to King’s College.
In his long cricketing career, Mr Lusk represented New Zealand. Auckland, and Canterbury, and played in many notable matches. He was a particularly fine opening batsman and slip field. He was New Zealand amateur golf champion in 1910. and has won over 30 open meetings and championships.
