ORKNEY AND SHETLAND SOCIETY

The Orkney and Shetland Society held its annual celebration of Hallowe’en on Saturday evening, when there was an attendance of about 250 members and their friends. Mr A. B. Fraser, president of the society, and Mr Norman Stewart, president of the Council of Scottish Societies, were piped on to the platform by Mr J. MacVean. Mr Fraser extended a welconie to Mr Stewart, who suitably replied, after which dancing was indulged in. At the supper adjournment the haggis was piped in by pipers, Messrs MacVean and Christenson. Mr James Young gave the address to the haggis, which was then cut up and handed round to all present. Miss Mavis Biesel gave an exhibition of Highland dancing. The “ movie ” waltz was won by Mrs Wright and partner. The music was supplied by Messrs Mac Murray, Hargreaves, and Fraser, and the M.C.’s were Messrs G. R. Berwick and W Sabiston.
