GERMAN WARSHIPS

GNEISENAU AND SCHARNHORST OPERATING IN BALTIC (Rec. 10 p.m.) NEW YORK, Nov. 8. The German warships Gneisenau and Scharnhorst left Kiel for the Baltic on November 5, apparently to protect German shipping against Russian attacks, says the Stockholm correspondent of the New York Times. The Prinz Eugen is still at Kiel. The damage which she suffered* in the English Channel has been repaired, and the ship is expected to sail at any moment. It is further disclosed that the damage British bombers caused at port installations was not extensive, though the damage to industrial buildings and private properties was enormous. For example, the important Beifell plant at Kiel was completely razed, in addition to 30,000 houses at Bremen, but the greatest havoc was created at Emden, where very little remains of the town.
