Bishop Fitchett left for the nortli by the express yesterday. Mr James Hogg returned from the north yesterday morning. Mr C. J. L. White was a passenger for the south by the express yesterday morning.

Mr F. L. Hitchens, secretary of the Dunedin Manufacturers’ Association, returned from Christchurch yesterday morning.

A motion of sympathy with the relatives of Sergeant A. J. Hinton, a son of the late Cr J. H. Hinton, was passed at a meeting of the St. Kilda Borough Council last night.

Mr E. C. Begg, president of the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce, and Mr J. B. Stewart, vice-president, will leave this morning for Wanganui to attend the annual meeting of the Associated Chambers of Commerce.

Passengers who arrived from the north by plane yesterday were: Mr M. H. Masfen, Mr W. R. Barclay, and Mr A. Heppner from Auckland, Miss Irvine and Mr Sander from Wellington, Mr J. Richardson, Mr R. McPherson, Mr J. McLennan, Mr Dunne, and Mr Pearcy from Christchurch. Regret at the death of Mr J. H. McDougall was expressed by the president, Mr S. G. Scoular, at the meeting of the executive of the Dunedin Returned Services’ Association, last night. He said that Mr McDougall had been a member of the association’s Golf Committee since its inception in 1932. A motion of sympathy was passed, members standing in silence. Mr E. Cook, who was a member of the Invercargill staff of the Commercial Bank of Australia from 1920 to 1927, has been appointed assistant to the general manager in Melbourne. Mr Cook represented Southland at cricket and Association football, and also represented New Zealand at the latter sport. He was a successful professional sprinter, and on one ocacsion won the St. Patrick’s Sheffield Handicap in Christchurch.
