LIEUTENANT A. F. WIDDOWSON Lieutenant Arnold Freeman Wilddowson whose death was recently reported from the Middle East, was the younger son of Mrs Widdowson. of Sumner, and the late Mr H. Y. Widdowson formerly a stipendiary magistrate at Dunedm He was educated at the Sumner School and aTchrisfchufch Boys' High School Wnen war broke out he was farming at Palmlrston North, and. being a keen member of the territorial service, enlisted and left with the first echelon as a sergeant He was among the. first to qualify for a commission overseas, and was later promoted to the rank of lieutenant His brother Morris Widdowson, also enlisted and went overseas with the third echelon, out returned to New Zealand in February of this year, having been seriously wounded last November. Lieutenant Widdowson was a cousin of Wing Commander T O Freeman, of Dunedin, D.S.O. witn bar, D.F.C.
