POWER FROM WAIPORI

FURTHER DEVELOPMENT INVESTIGATION RECOMMENDED A recommendation that a report should be obtained on the advisability of increasing the dam at Waipon to its full'height will be made by the Electricity Committee at the meeting of the City Council on Monday night. The committee will report that the agreement with the Government covering the supply of electricity to the council will expire in 1945, and the committee has deemed it advisable to open preliminary negotiations with the Government relative to the terms of a new agreement. With this object in view several conferences have been held with representatives of the Government, and draft proposals have been received. The stage has, however, now been reached when further information is required relative to the ultimate development of Waipori. In order that this information may be available, the committee recommends that Messrs Vickerman and Lancaster be appointed to report on the advisability of raising the dam at Waipori to its' full height of 110 feet, together with the estimated cost of the necessary work, and that Mr E. F. Roberts be appointed to submit plans and estimates of the bridges and road deviations that would be made necessary as the result of the raising of the dam to the full height.
