THE VEGETABLE INDUSTRY

“ The registration of commercial growers of vegetables has for some time been under consideration by the Government, and it- is hoped that it may be possible to take some action in this direction,” stated the Minister of Agriculture (Mr J. G. Barclay) in a letter received by the Christchurch City Council. The Minister acknowledged having received copies of the report of the council committee which recently made an inquiry into the vegetable situation in Christchurch. “ The Government’s interest in this vital question,” the Minister said, “ was revealed in the direction given to the Price Tribunal last November to inquire into the high prices then ruling for vegetables. In the subsequent report of the tribunal, recommendations were made which, to a certain extent, embody some of the main features of the recommendations of your committee.”
