ST. CLAIR WOMEN’S CLUB

At a meeting of the St. Clair Womens Club on Monday evening the Musical Circle presented, under the leadership of Mrs Douglas Barton, a programme of Sir Arthur Sullivan’s music. In her opening remarks Mrs Barton stressed the fact that this year was the centenary of Sir Arthur Sullivan, and she gave an outline of his life and works. The choir then sang “ Onward Christian Soldiers,” and Mrs Robson, with choir accompaniment, sang “ The Lost Chord.” The rest of the programme consisted of excerpts from the Gilbert and Sullivan operas. These were not announced, and the audience was asked to name the opera from which each song was taken. This made an interesting competition, and was won by Mrs Lightfoot. Mrs Starr proposed a vote of thanks op behalf of the members of the club.
