SOUTH OTAGO HOSPITALS
MEETING OF BOARD The monthly meeting of the South Otago Hospital Board was held at Balclutha yesterday, when there were present; Messrs A T. Harris (chairman). J. W. Fenton, L. W. Potter, J. R- Copland, W. Sutherland. A. V. King. Adam King. D, McGregor, and R. G. Cullen. The treasurer reported that receipts for the month totalled £2877 13s 3d, and the expenditure £2854 Is Bd. including Balclutha Hospital £1863 9s lOd, Milton Hospital £256 2s, Owaka Hospital £228 8s 7d, and Kaitangata Hospital £lO2 10s. The debtor balance was £3846 Os Id. The medical superintendent (Dr D. M. Frenglev) reported for the month of August:—Balclutha Hospital: Admissions 95. discharges 92. remaining in 84. Milton Hospital: Admissions 13, discharges 16. remaining in 10. Owaka Hospital: Admissions 13. discharges 13, remaining in 17. Kaitangata Hospital: Admissions 6. discharges 12, remaining in none. The Deputy Director-general of Health wrote stating that in order to conserve building material the procedure of declaring necessary Hospital Board building construction work to be defence work be observed. Before the meeting went into committee on tlie matter of tire Milton Maternity Ward, the chairman stated that the work was nearing completion. Nothing was being done to delay the opening, and bad it not been for the war intervening the work would have been finished long ago.— Mr McGregor said be wished to move a motion in connection with the matter, but the chairman said he would not accept it.
