OBITUARY

MR GEORGE GILLESPIE The death occurred recently of Mr George Gillespie, a highly respected resident of Purekireki, Catlins district. He was the third son of Mr George Gillespie, who was among the first pioneers to take up land in the Upper Owaka Valley in the seventies. In 1925 Mr Gillespie took over his father's farm and was actively engaged in farming pursuits until his death. He was keenly interested in all that pertained to the pastoral industry, and had a reputation for soundness of judgment and reliability in valuation. He was closely identified with different organisations in the district, and was a past-president of the Collie. Club. He served in the last Great War, and was twice wounded. Mr Gillespie is survived by six sisters and two brothers.
