IRISH GUNMEN

BATTLES WITH POLICE (Rec. 8.30 p.m.) BELFAST, Sept. 4. A 15-minute gun battle between police and members of the I.R.A. occurred at dawn at. the Belleek Police Barracks in County Fermanagh, on the Eire-Ulster bordeif. It is believed that there were no casualties. The raiders, after the battle; escaped across the border. Gunmen at night fired on a police car in Belfast. The police returned the ! fire, and one man was wounded. The area was cordoned off. A widespread search is being continued for the perpetrators of a bomb outrage at Randalstown, where two police officers were buried under the ruins of a police station. The British and American army authorities have been asked to take extra precautions for guarding army stores. Most of the arms discovered in secret arsenals raided this week were of British origin, and most of them were stolen from barracks. Quantities of stolen arms are still missing.

YOUTH ATTACKS POLICEMAN BOTH SUFFER WOUNDS (Rec. 10 p.m.) . BELFAST, Sept. 5. Gerald Adams, aged 16, fired on the police with a revolver and wounded a policeman in the foot. The police returned the fire, and Adams was wounded and sent to hospital. Another youth of 16 was detained and charged with being in possession of illegal documents. Two men were also detained after a search of a house in which a revolver, ammunition, and three Mills bombs were found.
