FAMOUS REGIMENTS
UNITS OF DESERT ARMY LONDON. July 15. Referring to the fighting units in Egypt, 'a correspondent says enough names may be mentioned to give a fair picture of the Army of the Desert. Many of the regiments from the United Kingdom are veterans of the desert, some of them, particularly mechanised cavalry of the Royal Tank Regiments, having been in Egypt for years. Famous infantry and rifle regiments from Britain include the Coldstream Guards, Scots Guards, Rifle Brigade, and the King’s Royal Rifles. There are also the Worcesters, Cheshires, the Durham Light Infantry, East Yorks, and the Green Howards. Further cavalry regiments which have been mechanised are the Royal Dragoons, Bth and 10th Hussars, 9th and 12th Lancers, Queen’s Bays, County of London Yeomanry, and the Royal Gloucester Hussars. i Artillery includes the Royal Horse Artillery, which is in strength. The Royal Artillery includes medium and field regiments, anti-tank regiments, and heavy and light artillery regiments.
In addition, there are men from all over the Empire, and with them the Fighting French, Whatever their region and history, says the correspondent, all these regiments are content to diffuse into one body of men—the Eighth Army.
