ARMED FORCES BOARD

FURTHER APPEALS HEARD The No. I Armed Forces Appeal Boat'd— Messrs D. C. Cameron (chairman), J.'. C. H. Somerville, and W. R. Clarke—continued its sitting yesterday, when further appeals for exemption o'r release from military service were heard.

Tire following appeals were adjourned sine die:—Otago Iron Rolling Mills Company, Ltd., for six iron workers (the reservists to join the Home Guard); McLeod Bros., Ltd. (three employees); Coulls, Somerville, and Wilkie , (accountant), the reservist to join the- Home Guard; Mr J. Baker (the reservist to join the Home 1 Guard).

An appeal by the Otago Iron Rolling Mills Company, Ltd., for a fitter’s assistant was dismissed, ahd one by McLeod Bros, on behalf of a storeman was adjourned until August 31. An appeal by Coulls. Somerville, and Wilkie for a clerk was withdrawn.

The board has granted sine die adjournments in appeals by the Railways Department on behalf of 10 apprentices, two moulders, four turners. 25 fitters, 17 firemen. seven boilermakers, four welders, five iron machinists. 17 labourers, two strikers, 21 porters, seven clerks, 17 surfacemen, three carpenters, three motor mechanics, two lifters, four cleaners, a machinist and saw doctor, a blacksmith, a signalman, a station master, and a painter. Appeals by the department for, a coppersmith. a moulder, three apprentice fitters, a porter, a carpenter, a junior; lifter, two fitters, a cleaner, and an acting storeman were dismissed, and appeals for four surfacemen. a cleaner, and three motor drivers were withdrawn. An appeal on behalf of an' apprentice fitter-turner was adjourned until December 31, and a moulder was granted release from camp, subject to review on January 31, 1943.
