THE U-BOAT CAMPAIGN
ST. LAWRENCE SINKINGSTHREE AMERICAN SHIPS (Rec. 7.30 p.m.) OTTAWA, July 13. Three United States ships were torpedoed and sunk in the St. Lawrence River about a week ago. Making the announcement in the House of Commons, the Minister of the Navy, Mr A. L. Macdonald, said that four members of the crew were killed, four are missing, and 99 were rescued. LOSSES SINCE PEARL HARBOUR NEARLY FOUR HUNDRED SHIPS NEW YORK, July 14. Axis submarines have sunk eight more ships in the Western Atlantic, bringing the total sinkings since Pearl Harbour to approximately 370. The United States Navy announced the loss of a medium-sized American ship, two small Panamanian vessels, and a small Norwegian vessel. The loss of a United States merchantman off the coast of Cuba is reported by the Cuban Navy. From all the sinkings 45 men are dead or missing.
