When asked how he pleaded lo a charge of doing mischief, a defendant in the Gore Magistrate's Court replied by asking what the rules of the road were with reference to the driving of stock The magistrate: " You answer the question first." The defendant: "If you tell me what the rules of the road are I might be able to help you out." The magistrate: "It is not a question of your helping me out. I mignt have to help you out." After the charge had been read a second time the defendant entered a plea of not guilty. He was charged with doing mischief by wilfully damaging the windscreen of a motor car.
