LAWRENCE

Loyal Pioneer Lodge.—The half-yearly summoned meeting of the lodge was held last week, the chief business being the election and installation of officers. The new officers who were obligated by P.G. Bro. E. J. Weatherall are: G.M., Bro. T. A. Weatherall; N.G., Bro: W. Varcoe; V.G.. Bro. T. H. Clark; Elec. Sec, Bro. C. A. Mclntyre; Warden. Bro. L. D. Tonkin; Guardian, Bro. R. Cochrane. Home Guard.—All platoons of the Lawrence Company have had special practices on the rifle ranges during the past week. Tests have been taken in grouping and snapshooting, and some really good cards were handed in. On Monday night the Lawrence platoon had instruction in bandaging from the V.A.D.'s under Mrs A. C. Browne, after which Corporal Chamberlain, of the Tuapeka West platoon, gave an interesting talk on his recent instruction in a northern camp. The Weather.—The weather over the shortest day was exceptionally mild. Hard frosts with bright, sunny days have been a welcome change from the wintry conditions experienced earlier in the season. While gratification at the mild climatic conditions prevailing has been expressed by older members of the community, there is disappointment among the younger members,at their inability to enjoy ice sports.

Blakeley and Bagley, dentists, Dunedin, visit Lawrence every second Thursday; next visit. July 2—hours 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.—Advt.
