HOTELS AND RESTAURANTS
NOW CLASSED-AS ESSENTIAL UNDERTAKINGS
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 23. The Minister of National Service, Mr R. Semple, announced to-day that all licensed hotels (except in the handling and dispensing of alcoholic liquors), private hotels, tea rooms, restaurants, refreshment rooms, cafeterias, fish and grill rooms, quick lunch rooms, milk bars, coffee bars, and hamburger bars would be declared essential. "These establishments are experiencing the utmost difficulty in meeting the increasing demand for meals and accommodation," the Minister said. "This position has arisen because a large number of workers have been attracted to other forms of employment, often of a less essential nature. Boarding houses, where there are five or more boarders, or two or more employees (other than members of the family of the occupier), are deemed to be private hotels and are covered by the declaration."
