Mr W. A. Jenkins, reporting on behalf of the sports section,.said that Lieutenant-colonel Jeffery had informed him that a mateh could be arranged, at a date to be fixed, between an army team in Christchurch and an Otago army team. The details had yet to be arranged. The chairman said it was very gratifying to learn that the match would take place. He said that the Canterbury side would be a very strong one, and would be composed mostly of All Blacks. It was decided to thank Colonel Jeffery for his efforts in connection with the matter, and also to ask him to thank the officer commanding the Southern Military District. At a later stage Mr Jenkins reported that he had just learnt that before the match could be played the consent of the Canterbury Rugby Union would have to be obtained, as the Saturday games in Christchurch would be affected. It was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the chairman and Mr Jenkins to make the best arrangements they could. Heating of Troop Trains

The " chairman reported on the result of the-interview which a deputation had had with the district traffic manager (Mr R. J. A. Stirling) and the Dunedin stationmaster on the subject of the heating of troop trains and the heating ■of • the waiting room at the Dunedin Railway Station when soldiers were waiting for a train to carry them on to their destinations. The chairman referred, to the difficulties which were facing the railway authorities in respect to heating equipment generally, and said he thought little could be done regarding the heating of troop trains. Special heating arrangements were, however, to be provided in the waiting room at the Dunedin station. Queen Carnival Launched

Mr Roy Herbert, organiser of the All People's Queen Carnival, reported that the campaign had been very successfully launched. There was £ISOO in hand at the present time.—(Applause.) Mr Herbert said that there was a wave of enthusiasm amongst the workers for the campaign. Next Saturday afternoon, with the permission of the City Council, they were to have a big show from the Octagon. This would include a baby show, a beauty contest, a skating race up Rattray street, and a tug-of-war. On the following Saturday many helpers would be engaged in collecting bottles, of which there was a shortage at the present time. He thought some revenue could be obtained from the sale of bottles. The idea was to have some attraction every Saturday, with the exception of the Saturday set down for the Army football match. Another project was a gymkhana at the Oval with the co-operation of sports bodies. Mr Herbert said that £650 had been cleared on the opening day of the Queen Carnival last Friday, and that £250 had been obtained from a "stunt" at the races on Saturday. General The treasurer, Mr .1. S. Cantrell, reported that £666 18s 2d had been obtained from the street day in Dunedin last Friday week. This collection was conducted by the Street Day Committee, and it was decided to thank the committee for its excellent work. It was decided to entertain the four carnival queens and their princesses at a morning or afternoon tea. Mr Cantrell reported that the funds of the sub-zone now stood at £54,700. Mr W. B. Richards, president of the Otago Labour Representation Committee, and Mr D. Cadigan were appointed of the committee.
