FORBURY PARK CLUB
QUESTION OF- HOLDING " . i The possibility of vthe -Forbury Park Trotting Club being given permission to hold a race meeting in the near future was mentioned yestgrday at a meeting of the committee of the club. Mr B. S Irwin presided. When Mr J. M/ Samson stated that he had been told there was a possibility of the club being allowed to race on the course, and.that a permit might be obtained for a meeting, various dates were suggested, but it was generally agreed that July would not be suitable. Mr D. C. Jolly expressed the opinion that an application should be made for dates in August or September, on condition that they were not allowed at the expense of the new season's dates. Mr Irwin explained that legally the course had not been taken over from the club. He had that assurance from the Minister of Public Works (Mr H..T. Armstrong). The position appeared to be that if the authorities took the course they would have to pay rent for it. If they did not, they must grant the club permission to race. When in Dunedin the Minister of Defence (Mr F. Jones) said that when he returned to Wellington he would ascertain the real position, and had definitely ' stated that if the course were not taken over the club would be allowed to race. Mr Samson said he thought that the authorities might be willing to give some concession in place of having to pay "it'was decided that a deputation consisting of the president, Mr Samson Mr Jamef Black, and the secretary (Mr C H. Caffin) should wait on the authorities and discuss the matter.
