OLD MAN'S DEATH Sitting as coroner yesterday, Mr H. W. Bundle S.M., concluded the inquest into the death of Peter McLaughlin Alan, aged 62 whose body was found in the water near the fishermen's landing at Port Chalmers on the night of May 23. Detective Sergeant Gibson represented the police. Dr D'Ath gave details of a post-mortem examination of the body, and stated that he had found in the stomach an amount of alcohol sufficient to produce drunkenness in the average individual. The skull was extensively fractured, and in witness's opinion life was extinct before the tide rose sufficiently to immerse the body. Robert Magnus Larkins gave evidence of having found the deceased's body lying in the water at the landing. One leg was wedged in an opening near the edge of the staging. .
