POLITICAL UNITY
DISCUSSIONS BY PARTY LEADERS No further progress towards reaching political unity has been made, states a Wellington report. Negotiations between the Prime Minister (Mr P. Fraser) and the Leader of the Opposition (Mr S. G. Holland) have been continuing intermittently since Mr Holland was invited about three weeks ago to discuss the situation with Mr Fraser. A conference was arranged for last week, but no further talks between the two leaders have been reported. Mr Holland is due to return to Wellington to-day, and his return, it is surmised, indicates that the discussions are to be resumed. When he received a deputation from the New Zealand Returned Services' Association suggesting that the War Cabinet should be extended by the inclusion of men inside and outside Parliament, Mr Fraser said he would again invite the Leader of the Opposition to join the War Cabinet. Mr Holland at the time criticised the association's proposals and again urged the formation of a National Government. The deputation to Mr Fraser took part on May 16.
