TERRITORIALS CHARGED

ALLEGED VIOLENT BEHAVIOUR (P.A.) ASHBURTON, May 12. Two territorials were charged before a court martial to-day with being absent without leave and attempting to escape while under arrest. Private Colin Valpie Jury was further charged with having offered violence to a private, in whose custody he was placed, attacking and threatening him with a bayonet, and Russell Vincent Gibson was also further charged with using violence to a superior officer in that he struck the officer with his fist and open hand in the face, and struck with a bayonet a lance-corporal who was at the time in command of an escort taking him to his tent. Both admitted the charge of absence without leave, but pleaded not guilty to the other charges. The findings of the court martial will be- promulgated. The incident occurred at a camp.
