UNDER HEAVY FIRE

ISLAND OF CORREGIDOR CASUALTIES AND DAMAGE (Rec. 7 p.m.) RUGBY, Apl. 20. A United States war communique states that the heavy artillery bombardment of Corregidor from the 240millimetre guns of the enemy on Batan and Cavite continued all day. Some casualties and damage resulted. Hostile air attacks have decreased in number and intensity. Further landings of enemy troops have been made in the vicinity of San Jose on the southwest coast of Panay Island. In the northern part of the island sharp fighting is reported near Lambanuo, where the enemy has been temporarily halted by counter-attacks.
