MAN-POWER COMMITTEE

APPEALS AGAINST SERVICE The Man-power Committee—Messrs D. C. Cameron (chairman) C. V. Smith, and W. R. Clarke—sat yesterday to hear appeals by reservists against military service. The following appeals were adjourned sine die: J. G. Laurenson and Son, for two bakers; Glendermid, Ltd., for three employees; George Davis, for a machinist; J. S. Cottle, a plumber; Cossens and Black, for a moulder; and J. K. Wooldridge, a tinsmith, the reservist to join the Home Guard; Electric Refrigerating, Ltd., for an engineer, the reservist to join the Home Guard. The following appeals were dismissed, the reservists not to be called up before the dates mentioned: Director of National Service, for a chemist (May 31); W. H. Ganderton and Son., for a plumber (May 31); Methodist Central Mission, for a gardener (June 30). The reservists involved in the following appeals were released from camp: W. J. Stevens; Dunedin Engineering Company, for a foreman carpenter (until June 30); James Mitchell, for a coal carter (until May 31); Commissioner of Stamp Duties, for an assistant commissioner. The following appeals were dismissed: Director of National Service, lor a draughtsman; Napier Motors, Ltd., for an attendant; A. S. Paterson and Co., for a seed expert. The appeal of J. V. Pritchard, a varnish worker, was adjourned until July 31, the reservist to join the Home Guard in the meantime.
