MAN TO MAN

A TOPICAL QUESTION PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY How often has one heard the expression " man to man " applied to straight talking as between individuals. Nine times out, of ten, a person who is approached on a " man to man " basis will mend his ways when it happens that he has been " getting off the rails." Take, for example, the question of drinking on licensed premises. Speaking as man to man, it must be recognised to-day by everybody that sobriety is not merely desirable —it is a personal responsibility. No man who stops to think will fail to realise how important it is to practise moderation under to-day's exceptional conditions. Any abuse of the rights and privileges that people enjoy under the licensing laws not only endangers the freedom that is universally enjoyed in this respect, but such abuse is also an encroachment on the rights of one's neighbours and the public generally. As man to man. therefore, keep within the bounds. Obey the law-—and be moderate. An announcement issued in the Nation's interests by the National Council of the Licensed Trade of New Zealand.—l 4.
