Monday, April 13 (Before Mr W. H. Bundle. S.M.) Chinese Fined “A serious aspect of this charge is that a white woman was in the accused’s house when he was arrested,” said Detective Sergeant Hall when Kim Lum Chan, who was represented by Mr O. G. Stevens, appeared on a charge of being in possession of utensils for the smoking of opium. Mr Hall explained that pipes and other paraphernalia, along with a small quantity of “ seconds.” were found in the accused’s premises in Serpentine avenue.—Mr Stevens emphasised that there was no evidence that the premises were frequented by other Chinese or by white people, with the exception of the woman found there.— A fine of £25, in default 21 days’ imprisonment, was imposed. Maintenance Basil Goudie. charged with disobedience of a maintenance order under which he was in arrears to the extent of £42 17s, was sentenced to a month’s imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended on condition that he pays £4 on or before April 20 and £1 5s a week thereafter until the arrears are discharged. ,
