BY-ELECTION

BOROUGH OF ST. KILDA The by-election held yesterday to fill the vacancy on the St. Kilda Borough Council caused by the death of Cr W. J. Lovell, created very little interest among the electors of the borough, only 374 of whom out of a total of 5082, or approximately 7 per cent., recorded their votes. There were two candidates, and the polling resulted in the election of Mr D. A. Telfer. The detailed figures were as follows:

Telfer. David Archibald .. 201 Carman, James Alexander 173

Cr Telfer is a son of the late Mr Robert Telfer, who was, for several terms, a member of the council.
