ANNOUNCEMENT OF DEATH FOUGHT IN SPANISH WAR Well known as an airman whose activities ranged from the Antarctic to War zones in China and Spain, Flight ‘ Lieutenant Eric Neville Griffiths, of Wellington, was posted this , week as ■ killed! His wife, Mrs E. N. Griffiths, lives in Wellington. ' i Altnough he was only 30 at» the time of his death, Flight Lieutenant Griffiths had had an amazing number of adventures. He was educated at Wellington College, and learned to fly with -the Wairarapa Aero Club. He visited China, where he spent eight months in the service of the various war lords ferrying, machines from Shanghai to their headquarters, and later returned to New Zealand, where he obtained a commercial licence. In 1933, Flight Lieutenant Griffiths joined the second Byrd Antarctic Expedition. Attempts which he made to raise money in New Zealand for entry in the London-Melbourne air race were un- / successful. He went to England and was engaged escorting machines to Spain for the Spanish Government. He fought as a pilot for the Spanish Loyalists. and in 1937, after having been wounded, he returned to New Zealand. He married Miss -Fay Robinson, of Wellington.
